Wavetrac LSD - Completed May 2023 - Available In Shop

April 2022:
Yes, drugs! The high from fumes of rubber when you can lay down two skinny strips of rubber with our tiny wheels and tires.

The LSD option is out there for our AZ-1 and Cara but it seems very rare to come across and they don’t seem to be made anymore. I tried searching for the appropriate Alto Works LSD but those are not available either. I believe I need a LSD from the HA21S but I am not familiar with the Alto to be 100% sure. I am unable to find one for that model anyways though there are plenty of other Alto LSDs available. Checking the part numbers on Megazip lead me to understand those other Altos have a different part number so I am hesitant on spending over $1000 to get one and find out it doesn’t work.

This one is going to be difficult. Let’s see where this rabbit hole takes me.

May 2022:

I am in contact with people at companies that create LSD solutions. I’m looking at Helical and Plated LSDs and an open diff conversion kit. I have to measure my current diff and get the dimensions to get an idea of what production quantity is required along with unit cost.

June 2022:

-Drexler is too expensive at this time and it does not seem like I can get 5 (4 not including me) to get the minimum quantity made. So I will not proceed with this unless we can get at least 5. Each unit is more than $3000 so it’s a little cost prohibitive unless you really really wanted a clutch LSD.
-Wavetrac seems to be the popular choice due to everyday functionality and overall cost. I will order as many as we have for deposits and I will pick up a few more myself to have for stragglers :). This is a 1 production run deal unless we can get a lot of buys again. When all of them are bought up they will all be gone. I can get these units out for ~$1400 each and will need to collect a 50% deposit to get these going. If I cannot get enough deposits then I cannot proceed with this project and will have to shelve it. Of course if that is the case all collected deposits will be refunded.

June 2022:

-Deposits have been collected for the most part. I have enough I can proceed thanks to someone stepping up to ensure this happens by picking up a few extra units for the unpaid. I will start the process by paying the 50% up front with the deposits and my own funds to ship my differential over to Wavetrac to get it engineered! Hopefully we get 5-6 months later in the beginning of winter to install our new toy!

July 2022:

My differential and axle has been confirmed received for measurement and design at Wavetrac. 50% of the project payment has been wired over to get the project started! Updates to come as I hear from my contact.

October 2022:

The differential has been drawn up and queued for production. I had to send them my speedo gear to be able to double check fitment as it’s always better to test with the real thing. The measurements on the drawing are redacted as I am unsure if I was supposed to share this publicly.

January 2023:

Still in production at Wavetrac, seems like they are either short staffed or bogged down with production of all their stuff. (If not both) Projection seems to be some stuff completed mid Feb but probably not ready to ship til April.
Will update if I get more info.

April 2023:

Production is finalizing. Waiting on the side gears to be heat treated.
Notified all current depositors about final payment details.
Getting in on the remaining units now will be at the cheaper rate but once they are in stock price will go up from $1400 to $1900. Probably will begin shipping within 2 weeks to land first units in the first week or two of May?

May 22, 2023:

Shipments drop shipped to US based group buy people, awaiting arrival for international. There are only a few more extra from this production run and will likely be the last due to its ultra niche part type, high cost, and relatively high minimum production quantity (25 or more units). This will reappear in the Shop page once I have them on hand and are ready to go. Huge thanks to Thomas for assisting with getting this over the goal line. I believe he still has 1 at this time for someone to pick up before mine are listed so if you don’t see it available but are interested in one, let me know by email or message!
