Custom downpipes for Autozam AZ-1 and Suzuki Cara PG6SA PG6SS Only
September 2021:
Hey! I understand there are not many aftermarket downpipes available for our Autozam AZ-1s and Suzuki Caras. There are old ones from Japanese companies that are no longer made and are basically unobtainable since they were made in even lesser quantities than this car itself. Probably less than 100 different downpipes ever made in existence.
So… what do we do now? We want downpipes now too!
I am looking into getting pipes made locally to me here in the USA by a reputable custom shop so we can all have pipes if we want them!
There will be downpipes to made to fit to the original catalytic converter and a catless option too. Still up in the air regarding having an aftermarket catalytic converter built into the pipe itself.
I will post updates as I have them in the Blog section of my site and of course there will be videos on YouTube of the test phases and completed phases with dyno tests.
September 2021:
The builder and I have gone over the details and they’re willing to check the project out to start! We have to plan for meeting and showing my car so they can measure out what they need. I purchased a spare downpipe to give them for flanges so they don’t have to disassemble my car for it.
My contact is on vacation until September 27th so I will have an update after then.
February 2022:
Exciting times! The pipe is mocked up and ready to be produced! They should be available very soon.
Here are some photos of the tacked up catalytic converter version and installed for fitment check.
The original small catalytic converter that was ordered turned out to be too big, had to go even smaller with a Akrapovic high performance motorcycle catalyst to fit into our tight spaces.
This is a 2 piece design for ease of installation and flexibility of being able to swap between a catalytic converter and a straight pipe.
The entire pipe and flanges will be stainless steel. The v-band that holds the sections together is also stainless. Only the bolts will not be stainless.
February 2022:
Got my car’s stock baseline dyno done to be ready to get the downpipe comparisons. I was really low on gas and we were unsure how much was left so it was only revved up to 6500ish RPM since power started to drop off anyways to ensure I got enough runs in.
Everything was done in 3rd gear since 4th would mean I would hit the speed limiter in stock form. Although it may read a bit high it is ok because we are just comparing the difference as long as everything is run again the same. See the dyno results below. My car is stock with about 81k kms
March 2022:
The prototype pipe is ready! Doing the install on the ground to confirm it can be done without a lift at home if you don’t have access to one!

April 2022:
Figured out that when the temp probe that is deleted with this pipe will light up the apple pie ready light on the dash when it is disconnected. I want to turn that light off without pulling the bulb from the dash or dangling a probe somewhere tied with a zip-tie. This is not connected to the ECU, it is just a warning light that the catalyst is overheated. I figured out that if I grounded the wire on the car end it would turn the light off.
It seems like in a real world scenario what would happen is that the probe would be over a certain temperature threshold and then open the contact thus causing the light to come on.
My probe was rusted solid to the catalyst so there is not really a good chance of saving it without breaking it when unscrewing it. I will cut the wire from the probe to retain the stock connector and then patch a wire somewhere on the frame to ground it. I will include some connectors and wire with this kit to do so yourself too.

In honor of the other Japanese parts companies with their fun/ridiculous names in all caps, I shall name this downpipe ORIGINALITY.
Got the pipe installed and ran the dyno tests to compare the gains vs stock vs straight vs catalyst. See video and dyno graphs below.
The left one with the higher numbers is ORIGINALITY Straight and The lower numbers is ORIGINALITY CATALYST. Thanks to Sam Patel he retraced all the lines overlaying the stock run too making the graph on the right making the chart easier to read and identify what is going on.
ORIGINALITY Straight gains about 13% vs stock and ORIGINALITY Catalyst gains about 5% vs stock

This took a lot longer than I hoped for but with holidays, random delays and part availability combined? It makes for a long project.
18 pipes were brought into existence on the first run with the group buy. Mostly the straight pipe flavor as it brings the most power, but for those of you that wanted to obey the law with a catalytic converter, this was offered too.
